The Weeknd Donates $300k to Beirut Explosions Victims

The Weeknd is not only known for making hit records but he is quite the philanthropist. The Weeknd has donated $300,000 to the victims of the Beirut explosions in Lebanon. Lebanon has been experiencing severe food and medicine shortages.

The Weeknd’s manager Wassim Salaiby revealed this news on his Instagram. The Beirut explosions killed 200 people and injured more than 6,000.

Wassim Salaiby was born in Lebanon and had this to say when the donation happened, “I am so honored and humbled to work with artists who have such deep care for the world and right now for our brothers & sisters of Lebanon who are in pain and need our collective help,” he wrote via Instagram. “I want to thank my brother @theweeknd for his generous and class act of donating $300,000 to the Global Aid for Lebanon campaign”.

This is not the first time The Weeknd has donated. The singer contributed to multiple causes such as the Black Lives Matter Global Network, in which he donated $200,000. He also donated $200,000 to Colin Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights Camp Legal Defense Initiative. There is also a $100,000 donation to the National Bail Out in June.

During COVID-19, the artist has been providing funds to organizations like MusiCares and Scarborough Health Network. This relief fund helps to fight against the coronavirus and front line hospital workers. The total is said to be $1,000,000.

We hope more and more artists start to donate like this so we can get an even bigger movement towards progression.
