Chance The Rapper’s Wife Speaks Out Following Scandal

May 2, 2023

Chance the Rapper's wife, Kirsten Corley Bennett, recently discussed the controversy surrounding her husband's The Big Day Festival, also known as the Chicago Carnival. The festival was intended to occur on September 4, 2021, but was ultimately canceled due to production issues.

Many fans were disappointed and frustrated by the cancellation, as tickets were sold out, and many had planned to travel to attend the festival. Some also criticized Chance for allegedly not communicating effectively about the situation and not offering refunds promptly.

In a statement posted to her Instagram story, Bennett addressed the situation and apologized to fans for the cancellation of the festival. She explained that the decision was made due to unforeseen production issues and that Chance was personally invested in making the event a success.

Bennett went on to say that she and Chance understand the disappointment fans feel and are committed to making things right. She also assured fans that refunds would be issued and encouraged those who purchased tickets to watch for further communication.

The statement concluded with Bennett thanking fans for their support and expressing gratitude for the opportunity to create a positive experience for the Chicago community through the festival.

This is not the first time the festival has faced criticism. In 2019, the event was postponed due to weather concerns and later faced backlash for what some fans perceived as poor organization and execution.

Despite the challenges faced by The Big Day Festival, Chance the Rapper and his team have expressed a desire to continue working on the event and creating a positive experience for fans in the future.

Chance The Rapper

Chancelor Johnathan Bennett, better known as Chance the Rapper, was born on April 16, 1993, in Chicago, Illinois. He was raised in the middle-class neighborhood of West Chatham by his parents, Ken Williams-Bennett and Lisa Bennett.

Growing up, Chance was exposed to a wide range of music by his father, who worked for Barack Obama when he was a senator. His father also served as deputy chief of staff to Rahm Emanuel when Emanuel was the White House Chief of Staff. Chance's father often took him to political rallies, where he was introduced to Chicago's rich musical history and inspired him to pursue music.

Chance attended Jones College Prep High School in Chicago, where he formed his first musical group, Instrumentality. After high school, he briefly attended Harold Washington College but dropped out after a few weeks to focus on his music career.

In 2012, Chance released his debut mixtape, "10 Day," which was inspired by his 10-day suspension from high school. The mixtape received critical acclaim and helped launch his career. He followed up with his second mixtape, "Acid Rap," in 2013, which gained him even more recognition.

Chance's music is known for its uplifting themes, making him a prominent figure in the Chicago music scene. He is also involved in activism and community work, using his platform to advocate for social justice and education reform.

In 2016, Chance released his third mixtape, "Coloring Book," which had widespread commercial success. The mixtape was the first streaming-only album to receive a Grammy nomination and won the award for Best Rap Album.

Chance has continued to release music and collaborate with other artists, such as Kanye West, Justin Bieber, and DJ Khaled. He has also founded the non-profit organization SocialWorks, which supports education, mental health, and community development in Chicago.

Overall, Chance the Rapper's upbringing in Chicago and his passion for music and activism have made him one of the most influential and inspiring figures in contemporary music.
