Three people have been arrested in connection with the ambush killing of Florida rapper Julio Foolio, whose real name was Charles Jones. The 26-year-old was killed on June 23 in a hotel parking lot in Tampa.
The suspects, Isaiah Chance, 21, Alicia Andrews, 21, and Sean Gathright, 18, were arrested over the weekend and face murder charges. Two other suspects, Davion Murphy, 27, and Rashad Murphy, 30, are still being sought by police.
Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw stated in a news conference that hotel surveillance footage shows the attackers dressed in black and wearing masks. They are seen opening fire with two semi-automatic rifles and a pistol.
Jones was killed during his birthday weekend, which he had announced on social media. He had posted on Instagram about his celebrations hours before his death.
Three other people were injured in the attack but survived. Detectives used CCTV footage, license plate readers, and phone logs to identify the suspects. Police believe the attackers were members of two gangs, ATK and Twelve Hundred, who coordinated the attack. Jones was a member of the Six Block Gang.
Julio Foolio had nearly a million monthly listeners on Spotify, where his top track was "Voo Doo." He had previously mentioned multiple attempts on his life and his gang affiliations.
Authorities are asking anyone with information on the whereabouts of Davion and Rashad Murphy to contact the police.
