Fans have circulated theories, including a claim from OVO fanboy DJ Akademiks that the conflict may connect back to Drake allegedly refusing to partner with music streamer Tidal, which Jay-Z co-owns. The reporting also notes that Drake later partnered with Apple Music, while emphasizing that Drake and Jay-Z collaborated “after the fact” on wax.
Drake’s recent comments also tie into prior references from his music. On the track “Whisper My Name,” Drake said, “I’ll take $500K, not the dinner, I never could learn sh*t from none of y’all,” described in the report as a nod to an infamous internet debate.
